Ukrainian national protections are invaluable inheritance from ancient times. Our ancestors used protective amulets and signs till living Slavonic tribes from Karpaty to Luhanski waste heaps. The traditions of protecting own houses against evil spirits preserve till nowadays

Traditional Ukrainians ’protections.

The ancient Slavonians believed that the world is inhabited of good and evil spirits which are invisible for human eyes. With this aim were made especial protections for protecting human life and health against evil.

From Kiyivska Rus times till the beginning of the 20 century, protective elements was everywhere : in houses, in yards, on the clothes and jewellery . Often was hugged horseshoe above the doorway. Hand towel was hugged on stake. An Oven and walls were drawn by flowers and patterns with special meaning, on the attics dried bunch of medical herbals. According to the popular beliefs these things ware imparted of light, natural strength.

Embroidered shirts and towels are also folk protections, their decoration had always special meaning. The canvas was the most embroidered near chest for the protecting human imperishable soul against evil spirits. Sleeves were decorated of embroidery for health, happiness in love, success and power in owner’s deals

The girls wore colourful necklace . chaplets and kerchiefs not only for underlining beauty but also for protections against evil spirits, attracting lack and happy fortune. Cossacks (ancient Ukrainian warriors) always had with them decorated of ornaments small sacks with native land which were embroidered by mother, sisters, loved wife; ribbons or pinches of dried medical herbals. Later Christians began to use sanctified icons and crosses as traditional Ukrainian protections.

Symbolic meaning of protections

4. Red guelder - rose presents beauty for young girls and women so it’s planted very often in the yard.

7. The birds from salt paste are the main symbols of hospitality ,sincerity and warm-hearted.
8. Mint is well- known symbol of strong health but in the bunch with sage is made powerful duet against disease.
9. For family hearth will be useful grains such: rice, peas, buckwheat .
10. Sunflowers bring to house only good people.

Our ancestors believed that real Ukrainian protections give power, protect against evil spirits, help on deals and help traveller luckily go back to home. Peculiar amulets are made for everybody who lived at home also for specific solemn events. Even in last journey dead men were accompanied with bread which was baked according specific technology with ancient bywords and refrains.

How make protection by own hands ?

Magic of nature is white and pure but needs serious approach with following some traditions. In making of protections should obey our ancestors’ rules:

• don’t make for yourself, these things won’t be useful .
• chose material correctly for influence on some sphere of life: health, love, financial deals.
• don’t give over own protections for another person because with they give to the houses all problems.
• remember that protectes in the best way protection which is made with sincery desire and at free will bevause it is fillled with positive energy of creator.
