History of Ukrainian embroidery!

History of Ukrainian embroidery started for a long time. It is seemed that Sctythians’s clothes was decorated by embroideries. Evidence of antiquity this kind of art is Aarabic travellers’ memories where they fixed that people in Kyivska Rus worn embroidered clothes nearly 900 BC. Unfortunately memories about Ukrainian embroidery preserved only for last several centuries but it’s enough for acknowledgement similarity between ornaments and ornament of embroidery which were decorated inhabitants’ pottery in ancient Ukraine.

It should be supposed that founder of mode –embroidery under jacket was Ivan Franko in period XIX-XX centuries. He always differed from other by elegant embroidery. Mode for embroideries came back again 1920-1930.

On March 1953, was developed for production 3 kinds of male embroidered shirts by Ukrainian artistic union:

  • Ukrayinka – one-colour embroidery with з turn -down collar which combines two or three shadows of one colour;
  • Hutsulka - has colourful geometric pattern mostly red;
  • Chumachky - embroidery with low collor, neckband and embroidered bosom.

When Ukraine got independence embroidery became clothes for mass- meetings, events for students and yourth. Ukrainian embroidery became the most popular after «Orange revolution» when officials started to wear embroidery as festive clothes In the end of 2000 th. embroidery became so popular that people wear it even daily. This is walks with Ukrainian songs and patriotic slogans which regularly happen in whole territory of Ukraine.

Nowadays Ukrainian embroidered clothes became popular even beyond the borders!
